About us

Our story

Home goods, chosen the way you'd choose them for someone you love.

Where it started

We built the shop we couldn't find. Walk into most home stores and you get one of two things: something beautiful that falls apart by spring, or something sturdy you'd rather hide in a cupboard. We wanted the third option — pieces that earn their place on the shelf and still work five years from now.

So we started choosing them ourselves. Every piece gets picked for three things: honest materials, a design that doesn't shout, and a price that doesn't ask you to pretend.

How we choose

Would I put this in my own house? That is the whole test. Every product on this site had to pass it before it got here. If it won't still look right in five years, we don't sell it today.

We buy in small runs, we use what we sell, and when something disappoints us we drop it — even when it's selling. That last part costs us money and we do it anyway, because a shop is only worth what the next order proves.

How we got here

The beginning. A cart full of things that looked good online and felt wrong in the hand. We thought that gap was fixable, so we went looking for the makers ourselves.

Early days. The first customers found us on Pinterest — planning a room, saving a lamp next to a paint colour. That is still where most of them meet us.

Word of mouth. No viral moment, no celebrity. One person told a friend, and that friend told another.

What we promise

Every order ships tracked. If a piece isn't right, you have 30 days to tell us and we'll make it right — a replacement, or your money back, whichever you'd rather have. No arguing about it.

Questions before you order are welcome. Write to us at support@hartandlane.com and a person answers.
